Microsoft finally got the picture; many people don't have a "broadband" fast connection to download and install their Critical Security patch files. In consideration of all those users that sit and wait, sometimes for hours, to download an import patch file, Microsoft has created a CD of security patches for Windows 98, Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, and XP including patch files upto October 2003. This CD is FREE, even the shipping is free--and MicroSoft is even including a free trial version of an anti-virus program and a firewall. All you have to do is go to the link below, file out the form and submit. Get it, do it, you will be happier with MicroSoft, and maybe thank me for telling you.
This CD will make things easier if you ever get a virus and have to reformat and re-install. If your hard drive gives out and you have to replace it and re-install your O/S you will not have to spend HOURS getting all the security holes patched up. You'll still have to download the ones after October 2003 and to-date, but some of that misery will be gone. (Can you tell? I REALLY urging you to do this.)

DON'T FORGET...
Being PRO-ACTIVE is essential to keeping a "clean machine" and much more time and cost effective then being REACTIVE after you've been infected.
New, from the Department of Homeland Security, you can sign-up for email bulletins Cyber Alerts and Cyber Tips. These are available in TECHNICAL and NON-TECHNICAL versions, so my fellow geeks can get the down and dirty and my less geekish friends can get the "short story" instead of the novel.
Sign-up at: http://www.us-cert.gov/
I'm already receiving my alerts and several times that have reached me BEFORE news of an anti-virus update. US-CERT has also alerted me to software problems that my anti-virus programs would not necessarily have warned about. (See Next)

Call For Volunteers
On March 19, 2004 Henry County High School will be participating in the annual Student Leadership Conference. Sixty students will attend and spend the day learning business etiquette, interviewing techniques, and various other business related duties. We are in need of volunteers to do mock interviews with these students. The conference starts at 9am on the JCTCS campus in Shelbyville. Volunteers will be treated to lunch at Buffalo Crossing immediately after the conference ends at noon. For more information please contact Mandy White Breslin at the Board office, 845-8600.
SMART IDEAS
Recycling 7 Days a Week
As part of the County's new contract with Rumpke a recycling dumpster is provided. The container is located at the County Road facility at 714 Property road on the outskirts of New Castle and is open 7 days a week. Most of the materials we have grown accustomed to recycling with the monthly pickup stations (which will still continue, by-the-way) can be taken to the County Road barn and placed in the dumpster. One notable exception is NO GLASS. There is a notice on the container about exemptions. If you can't get to the collection stations (Campbellsburg, New Castle, Eminence, Pleasureville) on the designated Saturdays, now you have an alternative.
For more information see the our new page regarding Rumpke and our previous page about recycling.
If you have questions about County Garbage pick-up, you may call Rumpke at (800) 678-6753
or (502) 568-3800.
Recycling Update
Please note that RECYCLING DATES have CHANGED.
Recycling is now every-other month.
